Mr. Javier F. Lozano-Morales, Of Counsel to the firm, graduated and became admitted in 1981 from Universidad Regiomontana. He has pursued graduate studies at Instituto Panamericano de Alta Dirección de Empresa (IPADE), University of Illinois, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Harvard Law School and Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). His areas of practice include both the regulatory and corporate aspects of insurance, bonding, financial leasing and banking and financial services in general.
From 2000 to 2011 Mr. Lozano served as a General Counsel of Seguros Monterrey New York Life, and Secretary of the Board of Directors of this company and of Fianzas Monterrey. He was in charge of managing all of the legal, corporate and compliance affairs of New York Life International (NYLI)’s subsidiaries in Mexico. During 1990-2000 he was Director of Financial Legal Affairs and Secretary of the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero Bancomer (GFB). As such, he was in charge of all legal, corporate and governmental affairs of GFB’s subsidiaries, including the incorporation and maintenance of companies, the negotiation and creation of various cross-border strategic alliances and mergers and acquisitions, and the resolution of important antitrust matters. From 1980 to 1990 Mr. Lozano was Legal Manager at Femsa Servicios. For 10 years he was responsible for the legal, regulatory and governmental affairs of the fishing, tourism and food divisions of the Femsa Group.
Javier maintains active contacts with regulators such as the National Bonding and Insurance Commission (Comisión Nacional de Seguros y Fianzas), known as CNSF, the National Banking and Securities Commission (Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores), known as CNBV, the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (Comisión Nacional para la Protección y Defensa de los Usuarios de Servicios Financieros), known as CONDUSEF, and COFECE. His native language is Spanish and he is fluent in English.
